Authors: Dr Tim Moore
In August 2017, Dr Tim Moore from the ACU Institute of Child Protection Studies presented a keynote address at a Catholic Education Melbourne workshop: Child Safe Standards: Next steps on the journey.
In his presentation, Safeguarding Children and Young People, Dr Moore reports on the findings of the Children’s Safety Study, which was conducted by the ACU Institute of Child Protection Studies with colleagues from the Queensland University of Technology and Griffith University, and was commissioned by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The study aimed to develop an understanding of how children perceive safety and consider it within institutional contexts.
In his presentation, Dr Moore discusses children’s perceptions of safety, including what safety means to them, what it means to be safe within institutions, and how well they thought institutions were doing.
